Clinicians Thriving: Meet Jacqueline

I’m excited to share another story of a clinician thriving! I learn something from everyone who opens up about how they practice wellness. I hope you’re discovering new approaches from your peers too.

Name: Jacqueline
Nursing specialty: Recovery Room
Practices in: New York
Years in nursing: Four

  • What’s one wellness ritual you’ll never quit?
Making time to exercise. For me, exercise is my stress relief, and I consider it a form of therapy. For the duration of your exercise time, it’s all about you, your goals, and self-improvement. I feel that it takes the focus off the stressors in your life and allows you to just focus on yourself for a while.

  • Name one food you could eat every single day.
A fruit smoothie! It’s a quick “on the go” way of having something healthy and satisfying.

  • How do you create calm in the chaos of everyday life?
There are a few things I try and do consistently. I make sure to plan ahead; life is very busy, but if you plan ahead and lay out time to do the things you need and want to do, it makes it doable to accomplish most if not all of it. I find life more enjoyable and less stressful when I have a plan of action. I also spend as much time with my loved ones as possible to help me de-stress.

  • What’s the best career advice you were ever given?
To choose a career that you truly love. I know that sounds kind of obvious, and I also know it’s easier said than done. This is a tough profession, but I know it’s the right one for me, and I can’t imagine doing anything else.

  • What’s one thing you would tell your younger self?
That I am more than capable of doing anything I set my mind to, including becoming a registered nurse. I wish I’d had the confidence to go into this career right away instead of going to school for other professions. But I’m proud of myself for going back to school and getting the career I always wanted. It’s never too late to make positive changes!
